Like Rolling Stones Toward the Sunrise We Roll…

What I would like to say is that I sincerely hope that all mankind has a positive destiny. I believe that all things are probably determined by causality (I never like to say I’m sure of anything). That we are on the path somewhere and that path was determined long ago in the burst of energy from which we are derived.
I wish for that future time and place to be a good one. I don’t know whether to hope for an end to all suffering or not because I don’t know if suffering is necessary to know how to feel joy. How would we know joy if we did not know suffering? Is that possible? Would one just get used to it and become desensitized by joy? To simple machines it doesn’t matter but to us it does.
If I have any influence over the future, let me state now that I would like all who are most influential in the lives of others to use their faculties and influence wisely. To all the politicians, scientists, and pundits: Think of others, think of those who depend on you. And to the people whose duty it is to keep their governments in check: Keep your governments in check! Do not allow anyone to trample your freedom.
I have heard Singulatarians mention that political and economic homogeneity lends itself to the advancement of technology and the Singularity. Is war to coerce the world into homogeneity worth it? How do you make a value statement like that?
Like always, question EVERYTHING!

Good point. I’ve often wondered if we could experience joy without suffering. Perhaps some day we’ll create virtual worlds to experience pain, so that when we wake up we can appreciate our perfect utopia.
Then again, perhaps we’re already in that virtual world.
